64th Annual SNAL State Conference Overview

Grab your boots and hold on tight! The SNAL Showdown is happening in Cajun Town this summer! SNAL Conference 2017 has been designed with the current needs of its membership in mind. Conference Headquarters will be located at the beautiful and luxurious Doubletree by Hilton adjacent to the banks of the Vermilion River. Exhibits and breakout sessions will be held at the spacious Lafayette Convention Center on Thursday. A new event on Thursday will include the Health & Wellness Corral for your viewing. Come experience the southern hospitality Lafayette has to offer. Numerous attractions are available near the hotel including restaurants, shopping attractions, and the lovely historical Vermilionville.

This year’s Conference theme is “SNAL Showdown in Cajun Town" Everyone has been working hard this year encouraging students to eat nutritional meals, emphasizing fruits and vegetables. Come to Lafayette and relax, but be prepared to attend sessions which will motivate and educate you to be the best in your profession!

PRE CONFERENCE EDUCATION SESSIONS

We Have A Number of Pre Conference Sessions...

Two pre-conference education sessions will be offered on Tuesday, June 13th at the Lafayette Convention Center. The Institute of Child Nutrition (formerly NFSMI) will provide instructors for the Food Safety for Schools (formerly Service It Safe) and Nutrition 101 classes which will be offered 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for 8 CEU’s per session. Both courses are required to qualify for certification with SNA. USDA Professional Standards require that all SFS employees take a food safety course every 5 years. If it has been over five years since you have taken such a course, now is your opportunity!

Pre-Conference “fun-sessions” will be offered again this year on Tuesday. Dr. Nadine Mann will be teaching Wreath Making on Tuesday, June 13th ONLY. This year, Dr. Mann will be offering four classes of 10 (maximum) participants and demonstrating how to make the teardrop swag method of wreath making. This class will require a $45.00 materials fee. You must pre-register for these sessions. No on-site registration will be allowed. You must be registered for conference to participate in these sessions.

2017 Annual Bowling Tournament

Don’t miss out on the SNAL Showdown in Cajun Town… the Bowling Edition.

The fee is $25 per person with up to 5 players per team. Include the $25 with your registration form.

If you would like to register as a team, please indicate the members of your team and your team name on the registration form. If you do not have a complete team or are an individual that would like to participate, a team will be formed for you.

Players can be Chapter members, vendors, supervisors, executive Board members or any combination of these.

Key Note Speaker - Dayle Hayes, MS, RD - School Meals That Rock

Dayle Hayes is an award-winning author and educator. Her creativity and common-sense have made her a sought-after speaker across the USA. As a parent and member of the School Nutrition Association, Dayle has dedicated decades to making school environments healthy for students and staff. She collected success stories for Making It Happen, a joint CDC-USDA project; wrote a chapter on communicating with students in Managing Child Nutrition Programs: Leadership for Excellence; and co-authored the 2014 Position of the Academy of Nutrition Dietetics: Nutrition Guidance for Healthy Children Ages 2 to 11 Years.In recognition of her professional and volunteer leadership, Dayle has received numerous honors, including Montana Dietitian of the Year and an ADA Excellence in Consultation and Business Practice Award. In January 2012, she received the Silver FAME Award as a Friend of Child Nutrition and Foodservice Director magazine named her as one of their 20 Most Influential in the same year. She was honored with a Medallion Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Montana School Food Service Professional of the Year in 2013. Hayes served on the ADA Board of Directors where she chaired the Public Initiative Team and Technology Task Force. She also is a past president of the Montana Dietetic Association and Past-Chair of the School Nutrition Services Dietetic Practice Group.

Evening of Entertainment will be in the Ballroom featuring the southern sounds of the famous Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie Band. Several additional entertainment opportunities such as Line Dancing classes and Gospel Music session have been scheduled for your entertainment. So Grab your boots and mosey on down to the Ballroom to enter into a festival of good food, good music, and good friends.

Grand Gala Installation Dinner

Installation Dinner & Second General Session

The Grand Gala Installation Dinner night will be a Western Theme Event. Grab your boots, hat, or blue jean attire and help show your support for the Association. If laughter is medicine for the soul we will over dose with the funniest Cajun Comedian performer. Kent Gonsoulin, Cajun Comedian will be entertaining with his unique brand of clean Cajun humor. Kent has kept audiences laughing throughout the south.

Thursday evening will be the finale with the installation of officers and entertainment. Kent Gonsoulin-Cajun comedian is scheduled for your entertainment after the installation and dinner service. What a great way to end conference by enjoying a great meal and laughter with friends. We will rope you in with our Western attire for the finale event so blue jeans and boots are encouraged!
